| Welcome to the World of Norfolk... |
In 1975 the Commonwealth Government of Australia engaged Professor G.J. Butland to undertake a population study of Norfolk Island. In his report Professor Butland concluded that -
|
"If a concerted effort were made, backed by larger financial resources, the community could turn the very small area of the island to its own advantage by converting Norfolk Island into "the best small island in the world", a model haven of considerable beauty, of unique historical interest, of a thriving community, and of rest and relaxation - which are the objectives of the overwhelming mass of the tourists who make the journey to its shores."

Norfolk Island is consciously working towards achieving greater self sustainability.. The founders of this website, Simon Bigg and Robin Adams, have a passion for their Island home which they believe is "The Best Small Island in the World". In creating this website in late 2008 they focussed principally on showcasing Norfolk as a biological showpiece to the world, where the major growers garden in a sustainable way, both commercially and domestically, working with nature, not against her.
It is hard to believe that it is three years since Sustainable Norfolk “was born” and the experiences gained along the way since then have been amazing. In May 2011 Sustainable Norfolk matured into a fully fledged not-for-profit Association incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act (Norfolk Island) and its members are looking forward to a future of growing and going from strength to strength in pursuing our goals and working with the community towards achieving greater self sustainability for our wonderful Island. We invite you to check out "Goals" on this website.

| "A world first for government" |
In September 2008, the Norfolk Island Government funded a visit to Norfolk Island of Graeme Sait, CEO and founder of Queensland company, Nutri-Tech Solutions ( NTS), a recognised world leader in sustainable agriculture and horticulture. The purpose of the visit was for Graeme to conduct both an evening Seminar on The Secrets to Longevity and Well Being and a two day seminar on Sustainable Agriculture for Norfolk's commercial and domestic growers to gain first hand knowledge on how to grow their produce using biological and sustainable agricultural practices. The two-day Seminar was gifted by the Norfolk Island Government to Island residents and in Graeme's words, this would be "a world first for government".
|
Graeme had this to say on his return to Queensland.
|
"Norfolk Island has the potential to become a biological showpiece, producing nutrient-dense, medicinal food, with forgotten flavours and extended shelf-life for locals and visitors alike. There is a massive groundswell of interest in sustainable agriculture around the globe and it would be quite a draw card to visit such a beautiful place to see this approach in action. ".
